Professional Staff

Eric Niler, Ph.D.


Dr. Eric Niler is a licensed psychologist who has been a practicing partner of Salmon Falls Behavioral Health since 1997. He specializes in the cognitive-behavioral treatment of adults and couples, and his specialties include the treatment of anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, chronic pain, trauma/abuse, adjustment disorders, and work-related stress. He also provides pre-surgical evaluations for gastric bypass candidates and for the chronic pain patients who are candidates for spinal cord neurostimulators or intrathecal pump implants.

Dr. Niler graduated from the University at Albany and received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Niler currently teaches classes at the University of Phoenix, and he has also taught at both the University of New Hampshire and Granite State College.

Alan Nemetz, Ph.D.


Dr. Alan Nemetz is a licensed psychologist who specializes in childhood and adolescent disorders. He provides treatment for children, adolescents, adults and families. He has been a practicing partner with Salmon Falls Behavioral Health since 1993.

Dr. Nemetz is a member of the American Psychological Association and the New Hampshire Psychological Association. He is certified by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.

Dr. Nemetz received his doctorate from Boston College, and additionally completed an Externship in Behavioral Medicine. He was a Clinical Instructor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School for ten years. He also served as supervisor, consultant, and member of the leadership team for the Couples and Family Training Center in the Department of Psychiatry at The Cambridge Health Alliance.

Jan Whitten, MS, CS, APRN


Jan Whitten is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who provides therapy for adults 18 years of age and older. She is also a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner providing energy work as complementary treatment to assist with relief of depression, anxiety, stress, pain, and other issues. Finally, she is trained as a spiritual director and can integrate spirituality into care. She uses a holistic approach focusing on the balance of body, mind and spirit. She has been practicing at Salmon Falls Behavioral Health since 1998.

Jan is a member if the American Holistic Nurses' Association, Healing Touch Professional Association, Spiritual Directors International, and Sigma Theta Tau honor society of nursing. She is certified by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center as psychiatric clinical nurse specialist and by the Healing Touch Professional Association as a Healing Touch
Practitioner.

Jan received her master's in community health nursing from Boston University and a master's level certificate in psychiatric/mental health nursing from Boston College. She has training as a teacher of mindfulness-based stress reduction from the University of Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness, training in Healing Touch from the Healing Touch Program, and training in spiritual direction from the Mercy Center in Colorado.

Virginia Cole, LICSW


Virginia "Ginny" Cole is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Ginny earned her BA in psychology from the University of Massachusetts/Boston and her master's degree in Social Work from the University of New England, where she interned at Family Strength and Seacoast Hospice.

Ginny provides treatment for adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She joined Salmon Falls Behavioral Health in January 2010.

Ginny has 30 years of counseling experience, and her wide variety of clinical experience includes E.A.P. counseling, stress management, grief counseling, life transitions, coping with chronic health issues, and teaching mindful lifestyle practices for improved health.

Ginny offers mindful relaxation techniques such as breathwork and Reiki massage. Her focus on client strengths and use of cognitive-behavioral therapy as well as more holistic approaches to wellness enhances her clients' ability to heal their mind -body connection.
